JoyceDeWitt began her stage show at the age of 13. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at Ball State University. Subsequently, while she was performing in summer stock she was convinced by the director to attend UCLA's Department of Theater MFA program,where she received the Master of Fine Arts Fellowship along with the Clifton Webb Scholarship. Dewitt claimed she did not meet the actor Abe Vigoda while she was at UCLA. She worked as a secretary during her time at UCLA. DeWitt is best known for her role in Three's company's run from 1977 until 1984 as Janet Wood. This was an opportunity she was offered after she was cast in the pilot episode that followed. Janet also appeared in an episode of The Ropers in the year 1979. Following the show's conclusion, Three's Company ended in 1984, DeWitt appeared in an episode of Finder of Lost Loves in 1984, in which she then resigned as an actor for several years. She resumed acting with a part in an episode of Noises Off at Michigan's Cherry County Playhouse in June 1991. The actress also was a part of Spring Fling, the 1995 TV comedy. Pinky and the Brain aired in 1997 and featured an actress who was based on her. It was voiced partially by another actress. She was also in an episode Cybill. Her 2000s TV works include Hope Island and The Nick at Nite Holiday Special as in addition to Call of the Wild.
